A Tennis Return: Cambodia from Lavie Sak on Vimeo.
As a first generation Cambodian-American having parents who lived through and escaped the horrors of war and genocide, I was naturally passionate and very motivated to help in some way. Additionally, having played competitively and now working as a tennis coach, I decided to create this documentary.
This documentary is framed to share the story of tennis as a microcosm of the restoration of Khmer society. Tennis is not just a game, but truly has become a new way of life.
My main motivation for creating this documentary is to share Cambodia in a positive, inspirational, and hopeful light rather then dwelling on the past. Cambodia is resilient and strong; the return of tennis is just one example of this. Another driver for making this documentary is to help raise funding to provide orphan players with proper equipment, including shoes, socks, rackets, strings, etc. As a coach and player myself, I have not seen such motivation and love for tennis as I do in these children.
